Enrique José Varela Álvarez, PhD in Political Science and Administration from the Complutense University of Madrid (Instituto Universitario de Investigación Ortega y Gasset), is a professor and researcher in the Political Science and Administration Area of the University of Vigo (Spain) and academic coordinator of the Observatory of Governance G3 of the same University.
At present, he is the dean-curator of the Faculty of Public Management of the University of Vigo, where he has been teaching for two decades in the Degree in Public Management (face-to-face and virtual modalities), as well as in the online Master in Public Management and Institutional Leadership of this University. He has also been a professor-tutor at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia for a decade (2012-2021), where he teaches among others the subjects of Public Management (venia docendi), Political Science, and History of Political Ideas.
As academic coordinator of the research team Observatorio de Gobernanza G3, he is also a researcher of the teaching innovation group “Docencia Aberta-Opening Teaching” (2016-2021), both at the Universidade de Vigo. Currently, he participates in several competitive research projects in Spain and Latin America, on diverse topics such as health governance in times of COVID-19, comparative cross-border governance, or metropolitan governance.
