Laura C. Ferreira-Pereira holds a BA in International Relations and a MA in European Studies, both from the University of Minho. In 2003 she received her PhD in International Relations from the University of Kent at Canterbury (UK). She is Professor of Political Science and International Relations of the University of Minho where she teaches various courses, and conducts research in the domains of International Relations and European Union Studies. Since 2012 she has acted as invited professor at the University of São Paulo. She has also taught in Lisbon, Rio de Janeiro, Lublin, Cape Verde and Montevideo.
Her current research explores the EU’s strategic partnership diplomacy and relations with the Lusophone world; Europeanisation within and beyond Europe; comparative regional integration (with an emphasis on security and defence); Brexit and small states; China in global affairs and Luso-Chinese relations. Laura Ferreira-Pereira is a member of the editorial boards of the journals Contemporary Politics and Global Society. She is a founding member of the European International Studies Association (EISA).
Laura Ferreira-Pereira is the editor of Portugal in the European Union: Assessing Twenty-Five Years of Integration Experience (Routledge, 2014) and co-editor of The European Union’s Strategic Partnerships: Global Diplomacy in a Contested World (Palgrave Macmillan, 2021). She has acted as the leading guest editor of Special Issues published in European Security (2012) and Cambridge Review of International Affairs (2016). She is also contributor to other leading journals such as Journal of Common Market Studies, Cooperation and Conflict, Journal of Contemporary European Studies, International Politics and Journal of European Integration, among others; and has published in several edited volumes.
