Seminar “Russian gendered nationalism studied through visual “politics of loneliness””

The Research Centre in Political Science  (CICP) invites all interested parties to attend the seminar “Russian gendered nationalism studied through visual “politics of loneliness””, which will take place at 5pm on 8 November in the dst auditorium of the School of Economics and Management at the University of Minho.

The event will be presented by Professor Sergei Akopov.

 

About the guest speaker:

Sergei Akopov was born in St.-Petersburg. He has Habilitation (Doctor of political sciences) in Political Theory and has gone through a postdoctoral training in Sweden, Denmark, and Hungary. Sergei was an invited lecturer at Universities in Aarhus, Helsinki, Malmo, Oslo, Uppsala, New Orleans (Tulane), Barcelona, Tartu, Fribourg, Jilin, Lausanne and Sciences Po at Aix-en-Provence and Paris. He is the author of over 100 publications in Russian, English, Hungarian and Spanish (including in Europe-Asia Studies, Journal of Political Ideologies, Russian Politics, Social Science Information, Review of Central and East European Law, Russian Journal of Communication etc.), as well as four books. Before 2022 he was a professor at the department of political sciences and IR at HSE University. He is currently affiliated with University Grenoble-Alpes, University of Bonn, Independent Institute of Philosophy in Paris, and Free University (Berlin). His fields of interest include Russia’s identity and ontological security, gendered nationalism, transnational intellectuals, existential approach to sovereignty, visual political anthropology, and “politics of loneliness.” For the latter in November of 2023, he launches new web site http://odinochestva.net/ which will serve as an on-line collaboration platform for “Laboratory on Politics of Loneliness and Solitude”.
